Blockchain.com Adds Options Trading for Eligible Users

Blockchain.com announced on October 20 that it has launched options trading within its Trading Account. The company, which provides crypto services to retail and institutional users, said the feature gives eligible users a simpler way to trade short-term crypto market views, according to its announcement from Valletta, Malta.

Options let traders express a view on both price direction and timing. Blockchain.com said it is adding that flexibility to its consumer app to make options more accessible while retaining the defined-risk structure of buying options.

The company described a simplified trading process: users choose an expiry date and target price, enter the amount they want to trade, and review the order before confirming it. Blockchain.com converts that market view into the corresponding call or put option, allowing users to concentrate on their outlook rather than the mechanics of structuring a trade.

Taro Ugen, VP of Consumer at Blockchain.com, said options offer another way to act on a market view, but the experience across many providers and apps can be difficult to navigate. He said the new service centres on three decisions: where traders expect the market to move, when they expect that move, and how much they are willing to commit. Ugen said Blockchain.com handles the underlying complexity to provide simpler access to a trading service with clearly defined risk that adds to users’ investment toolkit.

At launch, eligible users can purchase calls and puts on Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Avalanche (AVAX), XRP and TRON (TRX). The company said live market prices appear within the trading experience.

Trades are paid for upfront in USDC from the Blockchain.com Trading Account. Because customers are buying options rather than using margin, the upfront payment is the maximum potential loss, according to the release.

The options launch follows Blockchain.com’s introduction of perpetual futures trading earlier this year. Initially, options have expiries of up to one week and must be held through settlement. Availability is limited to eligible users in supported jurisdictions and remains subject to applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
