Binance Adds USD/BRL Perpetual as Its Crypto-Settled Markets Expand into FX

Binance is expanding its crypto-settled derivatives offering into foreign exchange, starting with a contract tracking the US dollar against the Brazilian real. Announced on September 18, the USDBRLUSDT perpetual is scheduled to begin trading on September 21, 2026 at 14:00 UTC, or 10 p.m. Singapore time.

The launch adds currencies to Binance’s TradFi perpetual range, which also covers commodities and equities. Positions will settle in USDT and remain available for trading throughout the week, including periods when conventional foreign-exchange markets are closed.

A Currency Contract Settled in USDT

The new instrument provides exposure to the USD/BRL exchange rate without an expiry date or a requirement to roll positions into a later contract. Binance says its TradFi range uses consistent fee and margin mechanics across asset types.

Using USDT for settlement connects the product to the wider role of stablecoins in crypto markets. The contract is a derivative; holding it does not confer ownership of the underlying asset.

According to the announced specifications, the minimum order is 0.01 USDBRL, subject to a minimum notional value of 5 USDT. The tick size is 0.0001. Funding payments are scheduled every eight hours, with the funding rate capped at positive or negative 0.375%. Maximum leverage is 100 times, and Multi-Assets Mode is supported.

Pricing Changes When Conventional FX Markets Close

Continuous trading creates a pricing challenge when activity in the underlying market falls. Binance plans to address this with two calculation methods, switching between external reference prices and prices drawn from its own order book.

During the normal FX trading week, from Sunday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time to Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, the index will refresh once per second using a weighted combination of third-party data. For weekends and public holidays, the exchange says it will use an exponentially weighted moving average of order-book prices.

Binance also describes safeguards involving multiple index sources, mark prices and limits on deviations. These measures are intended to reduce price dislocations, rather than eliminate trading risk. Thin liquidity remains relevant to execution, a subject explored in Toktimes’ coverage of slippage.

Binance Points to Its Existing Weekend Markets

Shunyet Jan, Binance’s Head of Exchange and Trading, framed the launch as an extension of price discovery into gaps left by the traditional FX schedule. He said the exchange aims to provide a venue for expressing macroeconomic views and managing related exposures outside weekday sessions.

To support that argument, Binance cited its own research into existing TradFi perpetuals. The company reported that, by April 2026, weekend moves in its gold contracts had anticipated the direction of Monday’s opening gap approximately 89% of the time.

The announcement also cited a mid-September comparison across five venues. Binance reported roughly 53% of combined weekend volume for selected pre-IPO AI-linked contracts and about 59% for selected semiconductor contracts. These are company-reported findings about other products, not evidence of how the new FX contract will perform.

Availability and Trading Risks

At launch, Binance says the contract will be accessible through its Futures website, app and API under the TradFi category. An app feature allowing searches by traditional asset names will be introduced progressively.

The announcement warns that TradFi perpetuals can experience substantial volatility, especially beyond conventional market hours. Adverse movements can lead to requests for additional margin, liquidation of collateral and potential account deficits. Past results from other markets do not establish future returns.

The product’s significance is the expansion of round-the-clock, crypto-settled access to another traditional asset class. Readers seeking broader context can consult Toktimes’ guide to crypto trading strategies.
